I went to the Opera and A Bowl Game Broke Out!
For those who were hoping for an interesting bowl season brought to you by the BCS and friends, here are the yawners we’ve had to endure….
TCU 37, Northern Illinois 7……BYU 38, Oregon 8……Troy 41, Rice 17……South Florida 24, East Carolina 7
San Jose State 20, New Mexico 12……Utah 25, Tulsa 13……Hawaii 41, Arizona State 24
The average winning margin has been 20 points with no single game even within a touchdown!
Does anybody care about these games? I think there have been more points scored than fans in the stands.
Does NCAA Football really need to be like the NBA, where half the teams get to play in the postseason? Did you know there are 32 bowl game, which means that 64 out of 119 teams get to play a bowl game.
Here’s how things would change under the new BCS (Blogarati Championship Series):
- 7 wins to get to a Bowl. Not 6-6. Not 6-5. We reward deserving teams.
- Get rid of the sponsors that nobody knows…heck, get rid of the sponsors altogether.
- Playoff System.
Here’s how I’d run the Playoff….
- Top 20 teams in the BCS rankings get in
- Top 4 get a bye in first two rounds
- Bottom 16 play two rounds of playoff, before Jan 1, to get down to 4
- Jan 1 – 4 BCS games between the top 4 teams with byes and the 4 teams from the playoff
- Jan 8 – Semi-Finals
- Open Week before SuperBowl – National Championship Game
Thoughts???
